As the nights draw in and the temperatures drop, we’re busy preparing for the ski season.

However, the Tipsy Tea team are all about working hard and playing hard so to balance out all this hard work, we decided to treat ourselves to a weekend away.

We’d like to say that our destination was chosen based on lots of research and careful consideration but actually we chose Bologna based wholly on the convenience of the flights. Despite this it turned out to be an excellent choice.

We had heard of Bologna… or at least Bolognese but didn’t know much more about it. Turns out that it is the culinary capital of Italy! Right up our street!

We had 4 days to eat our way around Bologna… and we did a great job, sampling pizza, pasta, a fish feast (recommenced by Rick Stein no-less) and an amazing selection of gelato.

But there’s more to a holiday than the food… we also sampled the drinks. Although we’re Tea people at heart, we still enjoyed the Italian’s excellent coffee. We also embraced their love an aperitif, enjoying a spritzer (or two) before dinner, followed by some great local wines and beers.

We did manage to squeeze in some sight seeing and would recommend the two towers (one of which has a worrying lean) for panoramic views, the [university] and Neptune’s Fountain. We were also lucky enough to go to the opera (La Fille du Regiment) which was very impressive and surprisingly funny

Back to work now but it’s a big thumbs up from us for Bologna.
